NORWALK,
CALIFORNIA – Two graduates of the Teacher
TRaining ACademy (Teacher TRAC), an innovative teacher education
collaboration between Cerritos College and CSULB, presented their
impressions of the program at a recent Board of Trustees meeting.
Ingrid
Cherrington and Marilu Rosales graduated with the program's first
class in 2001 and are in their senior year at CSULB. They are
team student teaching in a fifth grade class in Lakewood.
Both credit the
program and program director Sue Parsons in particular with starting
them solidly in their careers.

Ingrid
Cherrington:
Ingrid hasn't
decided which grade level she will teach, but she will be
multi-subject credentialed for kindergarten through grade eight.
"Teacher
TRAC was a support system, a motivator, an invaluable source of
advice, and a great experience," she says. "It
prepared me very well for the Cal State Long Beach system. The
professors in the Cerritos program and the learning environment
there all contribute to a phenomenal program."
She started at
Cerritos in 1998 in pre-med and switched to Teacher TRAC in 1999.

Marilu
Rosales:
Marilu wasn't
sure what she wanted to focus on in college until she became aware
of Teacher TRAC and the opportunities it offers.
"It's a
very structured program and exactly what I needed," she
says. "I had plenty of help along the way and the staff,
counselors, and professors have all been wonderful. I didn't
feel a gap at all transferring to Cal State Long Beach."
Marilu has
taken extra math courses for her teaching credential concentration
in math. She expects to teach upper grades - four and above.
